A red carpet, a deeply traditional, everyday object found in almost every Turkish home, often passed down through generations. The red echoes Turkish red, a pigment long valued in Anatolian carpets for its enduring presence and its association with power.

Woven slowly, knot by knot, it carries time within it  footsteps, conversations, pauses, and rituals that unfold in its presence. In this piece, I literally wove the carpet with pencils, mirroring the way artisans weave carpets by hand, in a photorealistic way to closely mimic the real object.

In Turkish culture, the symbols woven into carpets function as a quiet visual language, commonly associated with themes of protection, prosperity, fertility, continuity, and life.

As the central piece of the collection, the carpet becomes a grounding presence, not a decorative object, but a lived surface that absorbs life as it happens.
